Wes Moore Relaunches Campaign With Lies — Here’s the Truth

Wes Moore kicked off his re-election campaign this week and his launch video was filled with gaslighting and outright lies. He insists he’s not running for president, but his travel tells a different story. He’s been lounging on George Clooney’s Lake Como yacht, taking taxpayer-funded trips to Asia, and hitting early primary states like South Carolina and battleground states like Pennsylvania, even while crime surges and Marylanders pay higher taxes and fees.

Marylanders deserve the truth.

Lie #1: “We inherited a structural budget deficit — and turned it into a surplus.”
The truth: Moore inherited the largest surplus in Maryland history — $5.5 billion (per the Department of Legislative Services, Dec. 2022). In less than two years, he turned it into a $3.3 billion deficit (per DLS projections, 2024).

Lie #2: “We cut taxes for veterans and the middle class.”
The truth: Moore rammed through the largest tax and fee hike in state history — $1.6 billion this year, nearly $7 billion over five years (State budget reports). His so-called “cuts” don’t come close to offsetting the hikes on cars, registrations, emissions, tolls, gambling, and more.

Lie #3: “Unemployment was one of the highest, now it’s one of the lowest.”
The truth: Maryland’s unemployment has tracked the national average for years. Businesses are leaving because of Moore’s tax policies — making Maryland less competitive regionally (Maryland Chamber of Commerce, 2024).

Lie #4: “Violent crime can’t and won’t be tolerated…homicides are the lowest in 50 years.”
The truth: In just 17 days this summer, Baltimore saw 2,500 crimes — 6 murders, 9 rapes, 426 assaults, and 439 acts of vandalism (Baltimore Police stats, reported by WBFF, Aug. 2025). Moore even rejected potential National Guard assistance while violent crime continues to ravage the city.

Lie #5: “We reopened the Port of Baltimore in eleven weeks.”
The truth: Federal agencies, port workers, and private industry did the heavy lifting. Moore’s claim of credit is political spin (Baltimore Banner, July 2024).

Lie #6: “I’m not from that world.”
The truth: Wes Moore is a Montgomery County native who grew up in the Bronx and Anne Arundel County — not Baltimore. His book and campaign materials repeatedly overstated his Baltimore roots (WBFF investigation, April 2022). He even claimed a Bronze Star he hadn’t earned on a White House Fellowship application (New York Times, Aug. 2025).
